Self-Care Tips: More Rest in Fall 2025
Raise your hand if you were delusional enough to make a conscious decision to actually plan and execute a wedding, honeymoon, and house move to occur all within the span of three weeks! 👋
Yeah, that was me this year!
As wonderful as this year has been thus far, I was stressed out. So stressed out, mind you, that I still feel the impact and effects to this day (despite all the festivities being behind us). I feel like I’m still the effects of having a multi-month fight or flight response to all of the stress, decisions, and people. I’m working through all the feels and trying to get myself on a better path. So my goal for the remainder of the year is do what’s in my power to control my emotions and feelings as life comes and goes by resting and restarting before the next year begins. Of course, there are several things I want to achieve this year, like learning a new language, developing a consistent meditation routine, and reading 52 books. I still plan to achieve each one of those goals. But first thing first, and honestly, more importantly:
it’s time to truly take care of myself.
If you’re like me and find yourself a little stressed because some of the weapons formed against you may have prospered a bit, now is a good time to pause and rest. Regardless of whether you plan to “go hard” for October through December or you plan to slow down for the remainder of the year, take at least a few days or a week to pause and rest first. Use this time to slow yourself and brain, recalibrate to meet your needs so you can spend the remainder of the year exactly how you want to spend it.
That’s my plan! Yes, October through December is a time for family and resting for me. But it’ll also be a time to get focused on a few achievable goals so that I can end the year stronger than how I started.
Here are easy and adaptable tips and ideas as we aim to rest more this season.
In my recent newsletter, I shared that I’m a recovering people pleaser and perfectionist (horrible combination, I know!). I guarantee you that these different parts of me made this year worst as we were planning the wedding, honeymoon, and move. So for me, the next few weeks and the remainder of the year is about resting to recharge and learn more about myself. To do this, I’m achieving more rest through intention and planning.
Don’t go in unprepared.
Get organized first before you get started. Yes, you want to rest. But how? What’s your end goal? What do you want to accomplish through this rest? Do you need to rest your body and mind? Do you need to pause after grinding for months on end? Perhaps you need rest to reprioritize what’s important to you? Regardless of your reasoning, the goal is to get clear on the reason you want to rest before jumping in.
I am no expert on self-discovery and self-awareness. But what helped me here was pausing and reflecting. Take some time to get in a quiet space, free from as many distractions as possible. (Shoutout to my therapist for helping me learn how to truly connect with one’s self by getting quiet and listening with curiosity!) Then, I asked myself a few questions. What do you need a break from? What needs a break? For me, I need a break in four categories: body, phone, mind, and soul. For you, you might need a break from socializing, social media, or something else.
Get curious so you can get the rest you truly need.

I don’t like to feel unprepared. As an avid planner user, that makes sense (and there are probably lots of planner lovers that feel the same way since we try to plan what we can). So pausing first to get curious and dig deeper is a key step. If you made it this far and skipped that step, you may want to go back first. It’s this preparation, this intentional step to pause and ask yourself questions, is what can truly make a difference.
